What does this number measure?
The Hills cloud denotes a theoretical inner population, often placed in models between a few thousand and about 20 000 AU from the Sun. Here, 40 000 AU is twice that indicative outer radius; the boundary and shape are not established by a direct image. This reference and the inner edge of the Oort cloud describe two boundaries of the same model region, not two distinct measured objects.
Compare the stated dimensions
The comparison uses the number in each fact sheet: altitude, height, diameter, length or distance, depending on the reference. Two values in metres do not necessarily describe the same property.
Source and limitations
Proposed documented order of magnitude; source linked, not individually audited during this session. Model regions and boundaries are highly uncertain.
Hills cloud: a hypothetical inner region of the Oort cloud, suggested by a diffuse, flattened distribution. The horizontal outer diameter follows the catalogue model's reference; the shape, points and density are interpreted, not observed. No giant solid body is shown.
