Size of Saturn: planetary diameter and rings

The adopted reference is about 116,460 km.

Mean diameter ≈ 116 500 km

116,460 km ≈ 116,460,000 m. A kilometer contains 1,000 meters.

One of the eight planets in the Solar System.

What does this number measure?

Mean diameter calculated from the volume-equivalent radius in the NASA/JPL table. Rings and the outer atmosphere are excluded.

The adopted diameter concerns Saturn itself. The extent of its ring system must not be used as though it measured the planet’s body diameter.

Compare the stated dimensions

The comparison uses the number in each fact sheet: altitude, height, diameter, length or distance, depending on the reference. Two values in metres do not necessarily describe the same property.

Source and limitations

Catalogue value: a source is provided, but the measurement has not been individually audited in this project.
