Hitachi µ-chip · 0.4 mm: size, dimension and comparison

The adopted reference is about 400 µm.

side of this chip version ≈ 0.4 mm

400 µm = 0.4 mm. A micron (µm) is a millimeter divided by 1,000.

What does this number measure?

A version of Hitachi's µ-chip, developed in the early 2000s, measures about 0.4 × 0.4 mm. The compared dimension here is the side of the entire silicon die, not a transistor or a distance between tracks. The RFID chip is used for identification and works with an external antenna and reader: its functions are much more limited than those of an 8086 processor. Other µ-chip versions have different dimensions; the exact date of this version is not fixed here.

Compare the stated dimensions

The comparison uses the number in each fact sheet: altitude, height, diameter, length or distance, depending on the reference. Two values in metres do not necessarily describe the same property.

Source and limitations

Linked source not consulted: the proxy returns CONNECT403 for this domain during this session. Approximate historical value to be checked again in an accessible source; no measurement of the illustration. The 0.4/0.3/0.15 mm versions must not be mixed. Year deliberately omitted.

RFID µ-chip: side of the silicon die alone; interpreted internal geometry, external antenna absent.

Development of this version: Early 2000s. Proposed historical date; an existing documentary source is linked but was not consulted for this date in this session. Do not interpret this reference as the manufacturing date of the illustrated specimen. The chip shown is the 0.4 mm version. Several versions and announcements exist; no exact year is assigned without checking the version.
