What does this number measure?
In 2007, Hitachi presented a tiny identification circuit approximately 0.05 × 0.05 mm, or 50 × 50 µm. The entire silicon chip is represented here. The antenna and reader required for operation are not included in this dimension. This is a demonstration of miniaturization for a circuit with limited functionality, not a 50 µm general-purpose computer. The chip's size does not give the size of its transistors.
Compare the stated dimensions
The comparison uses the number in each fact sheet: altitude, height, diameter, length or distance, depending on the reference. Two values in metres do not necessarily describe the same property.
Source and limitations
Linked source not consulted: the proxy returns CONNECT403 for this domain during this session. Approximate historical value to be checked again in an accessible source; no measurement of the illustration. Its status as a demonstrator and the exclusion of the antenna are essential to the comparison.
RFID demonstrator: side of the silicon chip alone; internal geometry is interpreted. The external antenna and reader are not depicted.
Demonstration: 2007. Proposed historical date; an existing documentary source is linked but was not consulted for this date in this session. Do not interpret this reference as the manufacturing date of the illustrated specimen. 50 µm chip alone; external antenna and reader excluded.
