What does this number measure?
Mean diameter calculated from the volume-equivalent radius in the NASA/JPL table. Rings and the outer atmosphere are excluded.
A volume-equivalent diameter describes a sphere with the same volume as Earth. This reference does not mean that our planet is a perfect sphere.
The comparison with the Moon concerns two diameters. It depicts neither their real separation nor their orbital positions.
Compare the stated dimensions
The comparison uses the number in each fact sheet: altitude, height, diameter, length or distance, depending on the reference. Two values in metres do not necessarily describe the same property.
Source and limitations
Catalogue value: a source is provided, but the measurement has not been individually audited in this project.
Interpreted planetary view. Textures and clouds are illustrative; this image is not a space-mission photograph or a scientific map.
